Fallout 4: Automatron DLC – First Immpressions

SentryBots, Assaltrons, and Protectrons! Oh My!

So last night I got off after working a 12 hour day, and started up my new Fallout 4 save, where I was escorting a settler that had been kidnapped by raiders back to her settlement. I delivered the settler safely, completing another quest in the log, when I decide to re-activate a radio tower. I was prompted to listen to a Caravan distress call. At first I thought that is was a side quest that I just didn’t get during my first playthrough, but as I got to the location I saw a jumble of robots with parts that they should not have. Sentry bots with Protectron head, Aussaltrons with Protecton arms, and Protectrons with robo-brain bodies. The site was something to behold! As soon as I saw this I sent a message to Cameron over steam that I had stumbled onto the new Fallout 4 DLC. And let me tell you, It’s awesome!

So some things that I should clear up. In doing some research you need to reach level 15 in order to even start the mission. However, I was at level 22 and I was having a rough time of it. After listening to the caravan distress signal and reaching the coordinates you find yourself in the middle of a robot death match. So you do the only thing that makes sense. Kill everything that is moving and loot the bodies.

After clearing the area of hostiles you find one robot still standing, an Assultron named Ada. She informs you that these robots have been after her and her friends for awhile now, and she thinks it is because of the custom tech that her former creator/friend/caravan member (its a complicated relationship) installed in her. She informs you that she can help you create similar robots and upgrades through a robot workshop.

That was all I needed to here. I was off to the dilapidated wreck of a home base, the Red Rocket Station south of Sanctuary. I was so excited. I get to build robots! SO AWESOME! Within ten minutes of getting to Red Rocket Station, I was attacked by custom robots and a new set of raiders called the Red Devils. I was not ready for this. After having to reload and fighting them off, I made the decision to do some leveling.

After you save Ada she wants to go to General Atomics Robotics facility, and after what I had been through with the initial encounter and the two robot groups attacking settlements, I knew I needed to do some leveling. So I went nose to the grindstone and went from level 22 to level 31 before I entered the facility, and even then it was still pretty challenging. However my only death came at the hands of an exploding robot. But the great thing about all the robots you’ll find and destroy is that the chance they may drop new parts for you to learn and create even more crazier robots.

So after I grow my robot army and find new and exciting robot parts to Frankenstein together, I will give a proper review on the DLC. So far I have to say, its awesome. I’m only a few missions in and I have been behind the curve the whole time. Automatron has been exciting and adds a whole new level of customization to fallout that we haven’t seen before. When I make my ultimate death machine I’ll share some screenshots too. MUHAHAHA!

Oh and here is some of my early creations. I know. They are pretty great.
